About Windy Hill Puppets

Where Puppetry Meets Purpose

A lifelong passion for the art of puppetry, brought into BC classrooms to spark creativity, build confidence, and bring curriculum to life.

The Story Behind the Strings

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Drama, from the University of Lethbridge where I focused on Theatre for Young Audiences and I worked at Lethbridge Community College's Youth Theatre Program. I have a Broadcasting Diploma from Mount Royal College.

I have loved puppets and puppetry for my whole life. When I was very young, my mom did a puppetry residency for children's librarians. We took those skills she learned are we ran with them!  We started building puppets, writing scripts, and  doing puppet shows at birthday parties, libraries, and other events when I was 12.

The residency program grew out of my desire to bring joy, imagination, theatre, storytelling, and humour to my kids and their classmates. I was encouraged by my son's teacher to create a curriculum and a residency to share the fun of puppetry.

Artistic Philosophy

"Puppetry is not a distraction from learning — it is a doorway into it."

I believe every child has a story worth telling. The job of the residency is to give them the tools, the confidence, and the stage to tell it.

Puppetry is uniquely suited to the classroom because it lowers the stakes of performance. A shy student who would never stand up and speak in front of the class will happily give voice to a puppet and in doing so, discover something about themselves they didn't know was there.

Every residency is designed with both the teacher and the student in mind. I work closely with classroom teachers before and during the program to ensure the experience is meaningful, curriculum-connected, and something students will talk about for years.
